The wallPen is a mobile commercial UV inkjet printer capable of printing directly onto almost any vertical surface.
The wallPen in its entirety (excluding print heads) has been engineered, designed and developed by wallPen GmbH in Germany. The manufacturing and assembly processes are also managed in-house in Germany by a team of highly skilled engineers. With German Engineering at its very core, you know you’re set for greatness…
We use a specially formulated UV ink that hardens immediately under the integrated UV curing lamps and can be used on almost all substrates. Thus, plaster, wallpaper, wood, brick, concrete, stone, clinker, plastic, metal, glass, most tiles and many other materials can be printed on with ease.
Uneven surfaces pose no threat to the wallPen. Our print head housing comes fitted with laser sensors that detect unevenness and contours in real time. The print head thus compensates automatically by moving back and forth up to 10cm to adjust for unevenness in the surface.
Printing height: The vertical axis is very adjustable as it can be extended in 10 cm increments. The lowest ceiling height for using the wallPen is 1.7m. Beyond that, the axis can be extended up to 4m print height in 10 cm increments.
Print width: unlimited
There are however some limitations with margins in corners to adjacent walls, floors and ceilings. These are 6 cm on the left, 10 cm on the right, 25 cm on the top, and 25 cm on the bottom.
One Person, one tool, twelve screws and only 5 minutes is all it takes to assemble the wallPen. Once completed you simply align the wallPen to the wall, load the image to be printed and start the printing process.
Print quality and resolution settings are two major factors impacting print speed. The wallPen can print at speeds from 2 to 16 square meters per hour.
Only on wood, sanding is required — and for materials like metal or concrete, removal typically involves sandblasting, cork blasting, dry ice blasting, or glass bead blasting.
The wallPen supports print resolutions between 300 and 1200 dpi.
As a rule, most images are rasterized and printed at 600 x 720 dpi. 600 dpi on the wall is already stunning in real terms, especially since wall prints are usually large motifs and are always viewed from a distance.
We use a specially formulated, low-odour UV ink that is specifically made for the wallPen. The ink is supplied in 200 ml bottles and refilling can be done spill free and with ease at any time – even during a printing break using the syringes supplied.
We guarantee that our ink will retain its color for at least 12 years indoors. Outdoors, the UV resistance is 2 years unprotected, but can be extended to more than 3 years by applying an additional UV protective layer.
Our ink cures instantly and is scratch resistant immediately after printing.
Of course! To remove prints from glass, simply use a ceramic hob scraper or razor blade. Otherwise, a print can always be painted over in two or three layers. Wood would require sanding and sand blasting or glass beading for metal or concrete surfaces.
The wallPen runs on standard household AC voltage between 100 and 250V. Power consumption during full operation is only about 200 watts maximum. That’s less than a conventional hair dryer. Power consumption in idle mode is less than 40 watts.
The total weight is 90kg fully assembled. The wallPen does however come in 6 portable bags, the heaviest of which weighing only 25kg, making transport, carrying and storing a breeze.
The printer is operated via the wallPen web app. Our in-house developed RIP software, the “wallPen Processor” is installed on an external PC or laptop (Windows and MacOS) to process images into .wallpen file for printing.
Both programs are included in the scope of delivery.
The wallPen is operated securely and conveniently via its internal WLAN network and the included Android tablet.
The service life depends largely on handling, maintenance and care. With appropriate care, a head can last for more than 5 years.=
Should one fail, however, this is not the end of the world. It can be replaced separately as there is a separate print head for each color.
Sure! The wallPen includes one year full warranty, hotline, support, service and software updates. An optional service and support upgrade to a total of up to four years is available upon request.
We offer full technical support for the wallPen in Southern Africa through our team of wallPen certified engineers.
